6Minerals

Who are we?

6Minerals was founded in 2021 with a vision: to harness technology’s power in order to revolutionise the way asbestos is assessed in Australia.

Our team is made up of licensed asbestos assessors, all educated to university level (and beyond) in the relevant subjects, e.g. science. health and safety, occupational hygiene, building, construction and environmental health. Our understanding and expertise in the field is unrivalled.

Where are we?

We offer our environmental consultant service in Brisbane and Melbourne, with an office in each location. Our aim is to cater to as wide an audience as possible, providing a prompt and efficient asbestos assessment service.

Why “6Minerals”?

Our name comes from the six most common types of asbestos, symbolising our passion and wealth of knowledge about this harmful substance:

Over a decade’s experience

Over the last decade, our team is proud to have been key players in many high-profile projects throughout Australia, such as the Bushfire Clean-Up Project and the Mr Fluffy Project.

The Bushfire Clean-Up Program was created in response to the devastating bushfires that have periodically affected various parts of Australia, including Victoria.

6Minerals worked with local councils and government agencies at the federal and state level to initiate cleanup projects to carry out asbestos removal and eliminate hazards.

The “Mr. Fluffy” project is an infamous case in Australia’s asbestos history. “Mr. Fluffy” was a brand name for a company that installed loose-fill asbestos insulation in the roofs of homes throughout the 1960s and 1970s. Raw asbestos fibres were pumped into roof spaces as insulation, with the severe health risk only revealed decades later.

The Australian government eventually initiated the “Mr. Fluffy” project, a large-scale program to identify and remediate homes contaminated by this insulation. 6Minerals is proud to have been a part of this, assisting with surveying, assessing and demolition of homes to ensure the removal of all asbestos fibres, for a safer future.

Over the years, we’ve assessed over a thousand buildings and produced a similar number of reports, with every single one adding to our longstanding experience, knowledge and expertise when it comes to asbestos assessment and auditing.

Our Technology

In order to provide our top-tier asbestos assessment services, we employ a number of state-of-the-art tools to identify asbestos-containing materials. Here are some examples of the equipment we use for asbestos testing:

  • Bulk sampling tools are used to remove pieces from suspect materials. These are then sealed in airtight containers to prevent fibres escaping.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including respirators equipped with HEPA filters, coveralls and gloves, keeps assessors safe during inspections.
  • Portable air monitoring devices capture airborne asbestos fibres that are later analysed in a laboratory
  • Drones or robots equipped with cameras can be used to inspect and collect samples from hard-to-access areas.
